CHALLENGE
Need for modernization in notary training
Traditional notary training faced significant challenges in providing practical, real-world experience in a safe environment. Old training methods lacked the interactivity and dynamism essential for effectively preparing notaries for real legal cases. Creating a training environment that could realistically simulate trial scenarios and provide opportunities to practice various types of cases proved difficult. Furthermore, there was a challenge in meeting the high demand for training and ensuring that each participant received an engaging and seamless learning experience. Limited resources, along with the need for flexibility in time and location for learning, called for an innovative solution.
SOLUTION
Development of AI-based court simulator
In partnership with AWS, Knowit was tasked with developing a court simulator that uses generative AI to create realistic training scenarios in a virtual environment. AWS contributed funding as well as the development of the central AI components, while Knowit developed the VR application. The AI technology used in the project facilitates realistic interactions between the judge and virtual characters, contributing to a more engaging and effective learning experience.
The simulator’s ability to dynamically adapt to user interactions makes it a powerful educational tool, akin to the training opportunities available for pilots in flight simulators. Through the simulator, notaries can now prepare for real legal cases.
RESULT
Enhanced learning experience and future-proofing
The simulator provides a flexible and realistic training environment that strengthens notaries' abilities to handle upcoming legal cases. With the flexibility of the training, content can be customized to include various types of cases, making it possible to cover a broader spectrum of different legal scenarios. The solution has generated significant interest and will be presented at the AWS conference Re:Invent in Las Vegas, which helps ensure the project continues to lead the way for the future of legal education.
The goal is for courts to be equipped with VR headsets in the future, further enhancing training opportunities for notaries. Collaboration with AWS on this project has been crucial for introducing this innovative technology into the training programs of the legal system, thereby enhancing notaries' knowledge and decision-making abilities.
The production has not only surpassed the expectations of the Swedish National Courts Administration but has also raised the standard of education by providing a safe, flexible, and high-tech training platform, ready to meet the future demands of the justice system.
How the solution contributes to Agenda 2030
Goal 4: Quality Education for All - The simulator offers a modern and flexible learning platform that improves the quality of legal education and ensures that notaries receive high-quality, practical training. By providing a more inclusive and accessible learning experience, more individuals can have access to education, regardless of their geographic or temporal limitations.
Goal 9: Sustainable Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure - By developing groundbreaking technology for education, such as generative AI and VR, the project contributes to innovation and modernization of the educational infrastructure in the legal system.
Goal 16: Peaceful and Inclusive Societies - By enhancing notary training and ensuring that future judges are well-educated and prepared for real legal cases, the simulator contributes to more efficient and reliable legal processes, which are crucial for upholding legal security and justice.
Through these contributions, the simulator addresses educational needs and supports the development of a more just and sustainable social structure.
