KUNSTSILO

Smart technology for a data-driven cultural life

RETAIL & SERVICES

Kunstsilo, perhaps Northern Europe’s most innovative powerhouse for art and cultural experiences, had a new opening in Kristiansand. With over 100,000 visitors in the first three months, the art museum has been a great success. Knowit has contributed with websites, ticket systems, digital workplaces, and counting systems.

New needs through growth and change

Kunstsilo needed assistance with leading the procurement round, planning, and implementing a new Point-of-Sale (POS) system and website. As Kunstsilo underwent a major transformation from being Sørlandets Kunstmuseum to becoming Kunstsilo, they needed to replace many of their systems. They required a POS system that could handle retail for the shop, ticketing and events, catering, and booking solutions for events.

Additionally, they needed help developing a system for visitor statistics, capacity control, and data availability to become a more data-driven company with new technology. During the process, Kunstsilo changed its organizational structure and grew rapidly. They also needed help developing, structuring, and adapting the intranet according to the new organizational structure, so all departments could have their own space to communicate, share information, and collaborate on documents.

Three areas that make a difference for the experience

Simplified communication and User-Friendly ticket system

Knowit has managed the project for the new websites, new info screen solution, and POS system for Kunstsilo. The website and the integrated solution for digital info screens were developed in collaboration with the branding agency Nonspace, providing a modern and user-friendly platform to convey the museum’s content and activities. The POS system is integrated with the websites, making it easy for visitors to book and pay for tickets and memberships in advance.

Increased productivity through digital workplace

Knowit has also implemented a digital workplace for Kunstsilo based on Microsoft 365. This gives employees access to effective tools for collaboration, communication, and document management. The digital workplace is tailored to the museum’s internal processes, graphic profile, and new organization, contributing to a good work culture and increased productivity. Knowit has also provided training in key applications in M365.

Valuable insights into visitor patterns through smart technology

Knowit has developed a system for visitor statistics, real-time capacity control via Power BI, and data availability to become a more data-driven company with new technology. The counting system measures the number of visitors in the building and on different floors. It uses sensors and cameras to register movement and faces, sending the data to a cloud-based solution. The counting system provides the museum with valuable insights into visitor patterns, capacity utilization, and infection control.

Data-driven cultural life through smart technology

With new websites, digital info screens, and an integrated ticket system, Kunstsilo has facilitated a modern and more user-friendly experience for the public. The new counting system enables the art museum to make more data-driven decisions regarding capacity utilization and visitor statistics, while also receiving valuable insights into visitor patterns. Through digital tools for internal work processes, employees have access to tools for collaboration and communication, contributing to a good work culture and increased productivity.

For Kunstsilo, it is important to have comprehensive technology systems that communicate with each other. Together with Knowit, we have made significant progress in becoming a data-driven organization that also offers user-friendly solutions for guests and employees.

About Kunstsilo

An Innovative Powerhouse for Art and Cultural Experiences

Kunstsilo is a new and spectacular museum in Kristiansand, which opened on May 11, 2024. The museum is built into a former grain silo by the harbor and houses the largest collection of Nordic art from the 20th century to the present day. Kunstsilo offers unique art experiences, varied exhibitions, exciting communication, and a vibrant cultural program for all age groups.

One of the main attractions at Kunstsilo is the art collection from Nicolai Tangen, a Norwegian hedge fund manager and philanthropist. Tangen donated over 2,000 works by Nordic modernists and contemporary artists to the museum in 2017, making it one of the most extensive and valuable collections in the world. The artworks span various media, styles, and themes, showcasing the diversity and creativity in Nordic art. Kunstsilo provides the public with a unique opportunity to experience Tangen’s art treasures in a spectacular architectural space.
