CASE
SWEDISH ARMED FORCES
Strategic cooperation for digital transformation within the Armed Forces
The digitization of the army is a necessity driven by technological developments in society and the global environment. With the help of the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) and various suppliers, including Knowit, the Armed Forces have been working for an extended period to develop, implement, and deliver a new tactical command support system for ground units. This work has already reached several milestones and contributed to increasing efficiency within the defense sector.
CHALLENGE
Need for digital transformation
The rapid technological development and changing security situation in the surrounding world have created an acute need for the Armed Forces to digitize and modernize their systems. The implementation of a new command support system has faced several challenges. Some examples include meeting the growth needs in the sector and developing new methodologies and processes for managing type systems and unit deliveries. Collaboration between authorities and the defense industry, as well as the influx of expertise from civilian actors, is critical for effectively addressing these challenges.
SOLUTION
Knowit contributes with knowledge transfer
Knowit has supported FMV with both technical and organizational assistance. We have been involved in developing the tactical command support system LSS Mark, integrating logistics support, and preparing for the handover of documentation and material to the Armed Forces. A significant focus area has been knowledge transfer, where we have acted as advisors, contributed to the knowledge capital, and initiated training initiatives within the organization.
RESULT
Successful implementation and competence building
With the support of Knowit and other suppliers, FMV has successfully delivered a first version of the command support system to several army units. This has fostered competence building and the development of new methods within the Armed Forces. The focus on competence and collaboration has strengthened the Armed Forces' readiness and ability to meet future challenges.
How the solution contributes to Agenda 2030
The solution of digitizing the army and implementing the tactical command support system contributes to the following:
Goal 9: Sustainable Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure - By modernizing defense systems, innovation is promoted, and the technological infrastructure is strengthened within a critical sector.
Goal 16: Peaceful and Inclusive Societies - Increased efficiency and preparedness within the Armed Forces can help maintain peace and security in society.
Goal 17: Implementation and Global Partnerships - The project illustrates how collaboration between different actors, including government agencies and industrial partners, can promote development and efficiency.
