Annual Climate Footprint Assessments of our environmental impact

Since 2018, Knowit performs an annual Carbon Footprint Assessment to understand how our climate footprint is changing and what actions are needed to achieve the targets set. The assessment is performed in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), an international reporting standard to calculate and report an operation’s climate impact. In 2023, the CO2 emissions for Knowit’s own operations have decreased compared with 2022, which is to be expected given that the share of offices on fossil-free electricity has increased, our travelling has decreased, and we have managed to extend the lifespan of our computers and mobile phones.

The Climate Footprint Assessment encompasses our direct emissions, like travel to and from work and corporate travel, and indirect emissions, from purchasing electricity and heating and cooling of offices, to computers, phones, food, drinks, construction materials and investments when renovating offices, and transportation.

We also measure and report our climate impact from the server operations we purchase for our own operations and for clients for which we have operative undertakings.

Knowit has already set science-based targets of halving the Group’s CO2 emissions by 2030 compared with 2019, which have been approved by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Knowit has in 2023 undertaken to set long-term goals for the Company’s CO2 emissions in accordance with the Science Based Targets initiative’s Corporate Net-Zero Standard. This is a supplement to the Company’s existing goals of halving the Group’s CO2 emissions by 2030, with a new, long-term goal for decreased emissions up to 2050, along with a plan on how any remaining CO2 emissions shall be dealt with then.

It is important for us to combine the needs and requirements of our clients with our environmental knowledge. Therefore, we continually educate ourselves in environmental issues. Parts of Knowit are environmentally certified in accordance with ISO 14001:2015.
